Alan Robin, CEO, Xangati
Alan has more than 20 years experience in the networking and security industries. He has contributed to six, successful start-up companies by developing product and market strategies that result in dramatic sales growth. As president and CEO of netVmg, he led efforts from early shipments to closing the acquisition with Internap in less than two years. He also held positions as VP of Sales for CacheFlow (now Blue Coat Systems) through their highly-successful IPO, for Ipsilon (acquired by Nokia), and Bay Networks/Wellfleet Communications. Alan holds a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Kenyon College and an MBA in Finance from Fairleigh-Dickenson University.
John Shoch, Partner, Alloy Ventures Incorporated
John F. Shoch, Ph.D., has been a venture capital investor since 1985. Prior to that, he was President of the Xerox Office Systems Division. John received a B.A. (1971) in Political Science, an M.S. (1977), and a Ph.D. (1979) in Computer Science, all from Stanford. He joined Xerox in 1971 and worked at its Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) where he helped develop the Ethernet, as well as the PUP and IP/TCP. In 1980, he became the assistant to the CEO of Xerox. In 1982, John became President of the Office Systems Division, developing networked office systems derived from Xerox PARC research. He was a Director of and Founding Investor in Conductus and Remedy. He is also a Director of several private companies, including Kasenna, Knowledge Networks, MontaVista Software, Nitronex, and Polimetrix. John also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Computer History Museum.
Stu Phillips, Managing Partner, Ridgelift Ventures
Stu Phillips is the Managing Partner of Ridgelift Ventures, a seed investment and venture advisory firm located in Silicon Valley. Stu has a rare combination of in-depth operating expertise, coupled with a successful track record in venture capital. Prior to founding Ridgelift Ventures, Stu led investments in communications, Internet, software, and services companies, such as Cacheflow (Blue Coat Systems), @Road, Procket Networks, Flyswat, Merlin Networks, ClickShift, and Force10 Networks. Before becoming a venture capitalist, Stu gained more than 20 years of operating experience, most recently at Cisco Systems where he was the VP of Central Engineering responsible for the strategy and development of the Cisco IOS. In addition, he held operating roles at Tandem Computers, Logica, and ICL. Stu originally hails from Oxford, England and attended the University of Wales in Cardiff, UK where he received a B.S. in Electronics (summa cum laude).
Rangaswamy (Vasu) Vasudevan, Ph.D., Founder and Chairman
Rangaswamy Vasudevan, a veteran Silicon Valley entrepreneur in the field of networking and distributed systems, was the Chief Technology Officer for CacheFlow, Inc. (now Blue Coat Systems) from 1997 through its IPO in 1999 to 2001. Through his career Vasu has specialized in networking and distributed systems. Prior to CacheFlow, he was a Distinguished Engineer with Sun Microsystems, Inc., and before that, a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Calgary. Vasu holds a B.S. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.
